Maya Mobility - Side Step
Maya Mobility’s electric step has been designed to address common problems that arise over time and affect operational performance. These issues typically stem from such products being positioned under the vehicle chassis, exposing them to all adverse weather conditions like water, ice, mud, and dust.

During the design phase, an externally housed solution was preferred, covering both the step and all moving mechanical parts. This approach better protects operational performance.
The main innovative design solutions developed by Maya Mobility include:
A mechanical clutch (friction) system between the motor and the step gears. This unique solution mechanically determines the step’s deployment force, ensuring user safety. In case of motor or electrical system failure, emergency retraction can be performed by a manual push equivalent to the user-defined deployment force. This does not disrupt the use of the vehicle/ambulance.
The perforated (punched) structure of the step surface provides excellent anti-slip properties while effectively removing accumulated mud and debris. Especially in high-usage scenarios like ambulances, the perforations are crucial for draining accumulated waste to the ground.
The electric motor, microswitch, and all mechanical parts that enable the step’s extension are positioned in the upper section of the sheet metal protected housing to provide higher protection against water and external contamination.
Another unique feature is the cam system on the step surface’s sliding guides. This system alters the upward movement during retraction, preventing dirt, dust, and mud from entering the sliding gaps. Additionally, when the step is retracted, rubber seals engage between the step and the housing, enhancing sealing.
Sliding pads made of Polizene provide a self-lubricating structure on the inner surface of the guides, ensuring smooth and fluid operation of the step over time.
Reinforced aluminum edges, along with the 2.5 mm thick step casing, provide high structural strength and resistance to torsional stresses.
Drainage holes located in the lower cross member of the housing effectively expel any potential water leakage.
The electrical wiring is equipped with waterproof external connection connectors, including a sealed rubber component used where the electrical cable exits the housing.
For user safety, nylon end protectors are located at the outer ends of the step. These parts are produced in yellow for daytime visibility and are backlit with LED lighting for better visibility at night or in low-light conditions.
The housing is made of galvanized steel, while the chassis and step are made of aluminum. In addition to its anti-slip surface, the step is equipped with nylon inserts that enhance grip even in extreme conditions. The entire structure is coated with electrostatic powder paint to ensure a longer lifespan against external factors. The housing can also be optionally supplied in stainless steel.
To enhance operational safety, a special electronic control unit has been developed to protect the electric motor and allow for different usage scenarios.
If the step is blocked by an external obstacle during extension or retraction, the electronic control unit cuts off power to the motor after a certain period. During this time, the motor idles without damage thanks to the clutch system.
The total thickness of the step is only 6.7 cm and it is available in the following versions:
45 / 60 / 80 / 110 cm width options
35 cm depth
28 cm step surface
These dimensions are the result of continuous product development and improvement, aiming to achieve a single, optimal depth-step solution suitable for every need.
